Mahboob College celebrated 150 years of its existence on Wednesday at their college premises. With a history dating back to the early 19th century, the college was perhaps the first English institution catering to Indians back then. The students of both Mahboob Degree College and School were in the best of their spirits as they were the proud to be a part of the celebrations. They cheered at the proceedings of the day.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah was the chief guest for the occasion. A photo exhibition, set up as a tribute to the 150 years of history, was inaugurated by him. The photo exhibition took one through a journey of the college’s achievements and standing out in the crowd was a picture of Swami Vivekananda, who delivered a lecture at the college premises before he left for Chicago in 1893. As a tribute to the visionary, a statue of Vivekananda was unveiled and an open auditorium at the college was named as Swami Vivekananda Pranganam. Mahboob Degree College was named after the 6th Nizam.
