Not just for geeks

In an age where information is overflowing and easily accessible, we may think we know just about everything there is to know. However, ethical hacker Ankit Fadia’s book ‘Faster: 100 ways to improve your digital life’ breaks those myths and tells us how we can live a lot more efficiently.

Launched in the city on Wednesday, the book goes into the intricacies of commonly-used gadgets and explains little tricks that help with improving things like battery life and so on.

Known for books like Unofficial Guide to Ethical Hacking, Network security: a hacker’s perspective, System Forensics and his most recent How to Unblock Everything on the Internet, Faster... takes a different road into the digital world. Says Ankit, “I have been writing since the age of 15 and for the first time, I have written something totally different from what I did back then. In my previous books, I shared knowledge upon E-mail hacking, hacking mobile phones and network security. But in my latest book, you won’t be seeing the word ‘hacking’ at all.”

The 312-page copy, which is also his 15 book to be published, is bifurcated into four topics – functionality, look and feel, security and fun stuff which stresses upon how to recover deleted files, how to extend mobile phone battery, how to quickly switch between apps and so on. Basically, the book teaches the readers how to explore and play with the internet, mobile and digital devices. “So far, you must have used apps like Whatsapp and Viber and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. But most of its users remain ignorant in using these apps and sites with most advanced settings. In this book I will be sharing my knowledge upon how to customise accounts and organise your settings on these apps and sites. I kept the content simple and straight so that everyone understands it and can make the best use of it.”

This 28-year who once India youngest ethical hacker, is also the brand ambassador for Dell Computers and Flying Machine Jeans. Turning into a brand almost his own, he has also attracted a lot of critical attention that have written him off. “It’s a part of being in the public domain. It’s not necessary for the people to talk all positive. All the more, I have trained 25,000 people in hacking and cyber security networking, so my work speaks for itself.”

Besides his book, Ankit will also be coming out with a webseries on Youtube next week. “I have also launched an online show – ‘Geek On The Loose’ which explains simple tips and tricks, letting the viewers expand their knowledge on digital technology. Most of the show’s content is also covered in my latest book.”  The show has already received more than 75000 views within a span of three weeks and the new episodes will be aired every Tuesday at 12 noon and Friday at 4 pm. The book is published by Penguin India and was released at the Oxford book store at The Park.
