If professionals from the corporate sector had enrolled at the Indian School of Business (ISB) during its first decade of operations, employees from the public sector units (PSUs) seem to be filling up the seats now, if recent data from the school is anything to go by.

According to the premium business school, the Class of 2014 (Co2014) of its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) at its Hyderabad and Mohali campuses has 33 professionals from government-run entities - which is almost thrice the number of such professionals (12) a year ago.

“The present class has 33 professionals from organisations such as Indian Railways, GAIL, BHEL and ONGC. It has also witnessed a spurt in the number of medical doctors  and professionals from the fashion industry,” said Deepak Chandra, Deputy Dean, ISB.

Similarly, the number of doctors pursuing ISB’s PGP course has nearly doubled from 6 in 2013 to the current 11, while students with a background in fashion designing has risen from 4 to 12.

He added that the rise in the number of professionals from these sectors, as compared to the previous year, could be attributed to the focused approach on the part of the school to enhance its class diversity.

Overall, the Class of 2014 has a total of 774 students. Of this, the number of male  students has increased from 72 per cent in 2013 to 75 per cent, while that of the female students has dipped from 28 per cent in 2013 to 25 per cent this year. Similarly, the number of students who are married has increased to 22 per cent from 20 per cent.

“Success stories of our alumni demonstrate how the PGP has created a  transformational experience to turn several mid-career professionals into global  business leaders. We believe that the students of the Co2014 too will make the best  use of their year at the ISB, hone their skills and make a mark for themselves in their  chosen careers,” he said.

According to ISB sources, it has earned the distinction of having the largest class among  premier B-schools in the entire country taken together for the second consecutive year.
