United States patent for UoH faculty

University of Hyderabad received its ninth patent for an application filed in 2010 with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent was filed by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Viswanathan, faculty in the School of Physics at the university for ‘system and method for generating an optical vector vortex beam having two lobes’ in a joint research with Kavita Vemuri of IIIT-Hyderabad. The invention has a variety of applications including optical tweezer or manipulator, structure-free nano-plasmonics, spin-optics and can achieve tunable optical angular momentum, opening up new avenues of research.A doctorate from UoH and is currently the head of the Beam Optics and Applications Lab at the university. His lab focuses on research in the field of phase and polarization structured optical beams.

Summer programme

The School of Computer and Information Sciences at University of Hyderabad (UoH) will conduct a course on ‘Cyber Security and Computer Forensics’ over the summer. The course will be conducted between June 3 and June 15 at the university campus. The course aims at training students of B. Tech and M. Sc on basics of system Security, network security, cryptography and computer forensics. The course will have more than 40 contact hours including theory classes and lab sessions. Students of B. Tech third year in Computer Science and related areas are eligible to attend the programme. The participation fee is `500 per person.
