Celebrating the work and achievements of the ‘People’s IAS officer’ S R Sankaran, SWAEROES -- Social Welfare Aeroes (Greek for sky) -- Day: a state-level alumni meet of Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Schools, Colleges and Hostels was organised here on Friday. Bureaucrats from various departments and thousands of students from various districts participated.
Social welfare minister Pithani Satyanarayana advised students to serve society by taking inspiration from works and achievements of Sankaran. He elaborated on the kind of programmes that are launched by the social welfare department.
Bureaucrats present at the event boosted student’s confidence by giving them tips on how to succeed in life. B Prasada Rao, incharge DGP, reminded students that everybody has potential to excel and that they need to empower themselves. “Exposure gives us ideas, practice makes us perfect and failures should not deter us,” said Prasada Rao.
RS Praveen Kumar, secretary, Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Society (APSWREI) inspired students’ confidence by asking them to repeat the affirmations what he termed as SWAREOES ten commandments: “I am not inferior to anyone, I shall be a leader wherever I am.“ He told the students that they cannot wait anymore, shall move fast and cannot talk alone. “That is why SWAEROES network is created,” he pointed out.
Recalling his association with Sankaran, K Madhava Rao, retired IAS officer spoke about how the ‘People’s IAS officer’ devoted his life for poor. “When I was having problem in sharing my time for my family while working with him for betterment of lives of poor, he told me that families have themselves to support each other but who was there to support the poor. He remained a bachelor throughout his life, because he knew that he cannot allot time for family while serving for the marginalised,” he said.
