NCPCR seeks probe into diptheria deaths

Responding to a complaint made by E Venkatesh, convenor, Child Rights Protection Forum (CRPF) to National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) about alleged deaths of three children from Gopanpally due to diphtheria and identification of five more children who had symptoms, the NCPCR has written to the health secretary of state government, seeking an investigation into the matter. The letter written by Vandana Prasad, member of NCPCR, also asked the health secretary for status of DPT immunization, detailed case studies of the three children, details of medicare provided and detailed case studies of the five children who had symptoms of diphtheria.

Villagers from Gopanpally said that there was any immunisation. He also mentioned that though schoolchildren in the village were issued Jawahar Bala Arogya Raksha cards, local health workers did not conduct medical check-ups.
