With no funds to maintain the Langer Houz flyover, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to hand over the flyover to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for maintenance in the near future.
The recently-held HMDA executive meeting okayed the proposal. A majority of the flyovers in the twin cities that were constructed by the HMDA have been handed over to the GHMC for proper maintenance.
HMDA officials told Express that Langer Houz is an important junction connecting important roads leading to Golconda, Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, Moinabad and Chevella. HMDA built the flyover in 2007 to ease traffic congestion, given its proximity to the Outer Ring Road.
With the defect liability period for the flyover coming to an end on May 30 last year with the contractor, the maintenance responsibility vested with the HMDA which, in turn, decided to hand over the flyover to GHMC for maintenance in future as was done in respect of other flyovers in the past.
The 700-metre-long, four-lane carriageway flyover, with a width of 15 metres from Langer Houz to Bapu Ghat, was completed and thrown open to public in February 2010 and the balance under the flyover was completed in all respects in May 2010.
