Veteran BJP leader and former Union minister Ale Narendra (68) died here on Wednesday. He was admitted to a corporate hospital at Nampally a few days due to ill health and breathed his last there. The final rites will be held on Thursday.

Veteran BJP leader and former Union minister Ale Narendra (68) died here on Wednesday. He was admitted to a corporate hospital at Nampally a few days due to ill health and breathed his last there. The final rites will be held on Thursday.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Narendra, an RSS activist, began his political career with Jan Sangh 40 years ago. Later, he joined the BJP, the new avatar of Jan Sangh. He floated Telangana Sadhana Samithi a few years ago to fight for the cause of separate Telangana but merged it later with BJP.

Due to his dynamic nature, he was called belovedly by the party cadre as ‘Tiger’ Narendra. He was elected to the Assembly twice from Himayatnagar in the city. He was also elected twice as MP. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Medak in 2004.

He joined the TRS in response to K Chandrashekhar Rao’s call for a united struggle for Telangana state. After differences with the TRS chief, he quit the party. He was suspended in 2010 from TRS following allegations of his involvement in an immigration scam. He returned to the BJP on July 27, 2011.

Narendra was married to Lalita.
