To put a check on malpractices by Intermediate students, Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is planning to use GPS technology. Even invigilators will not be allowed to carry cell phones to the exam hall.

‘’The GPS is intended to help in tracking the calls made from mobile and land phones when the examinations are in progress. The technology is of great help in checking leakage of question papers from the exam centres,’’ BIE officials said.

First year Inter exams will commence from March 12 and second year exams from March 13. The  exams will be conducted in 2,661 centres across the state and a total of 19,78,379 students (9,29,090 first year and 10,49,289 second year) will write the exams.

‘’Only chief superintendent and department officers will be allowed to carry their phones. Their numbers have already been notified in communication network. Messages sent through these phones will also be monitored,’’ Rama Sankar Naik, secretary, Board of Intermediate Education, said at a press conference here on Monday while announcing the exam schedule. The phone numbers, in case of their use by invigilators with mala fide intentions, could be recorded and tracked with the help of the GPS tracking system, he said. Evaluation of papers will start from March 19. ‘’Only Sanskrit papers will be evaluated from March 19, others from March 28,’’ he said.

Students reporting after 9.00 a.m. will not be allowed into the examination hall. ‘’Candidates will be allowed to enter the examination hall from 8.30 a.m. to 8.45 a.m.. Candidates will also be allowed after  8.45 a.m. and before 9.00 a.m. if they have a valid reason dor the delay,” Rama Sankar said.

The secretary advised students to check OMR bar coded sheet for name, subject and question papers to avoid confusion between old and new question papers.

Control Rooms Set Up

About the complaints against college managements who are harassing students by not issuing hall tickets, Rama Sankar Naik said students can call control room number 040-24601010. ‘’At every district, control room numbers are displayed at the regional inspection offices. Students facing problems can contact the control room,’’ he said.

TLF Submits Memo

Members of the Telangana Lecturers’ Forum (TLF) submitted a memorandum to the secretary of BIE requesting Inter exam papers of Telangana students be evaluated in Telangana region only. ‘’Earlier we found a lot of cases wherein papers from Telangana region were evaluated by those from Andhra and some of the students failed as they scored only one mark below the pass mark though they deserved more. Now when state is bifurcated, some of the evaluators influenced by emotions might not do justice in evaluating because of which students of both the regions might suffer. To avoid this the exam papers should be evaluated in the respective regions,” K Venkata Swamy, president, TLF, said.

Inter Hall Tickets

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) on Monday announced that candidates appearing for Inter exams can download the hall tickets from www.bieap.cgg.gov.in. First year students can download their hall tickets by entering first year or SSC hall ticket number and second year students by entering second year or first year hall ticket number. Students should enter their date of birth also. However the candidates, who download the hall tickets from the board website should give written declaration before invigilator at the time of writing the examination.
