The establishment of socialist governments in Latin America is a beacon for the rest of the world including India, observed former MLC Chukka Ramaiah.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the seminar ‘Democracy, Socialism and Visions for 21st Century,’ here on Monday, he said Hyderabad still remains a fertile ground for revolution and movement.
‘’During Telangana Armed Struggle (1946-1951) the Soviet Union inspired us for the movement. Today, the Latin American countries provide us a guiding light to install a socialist government in Telangana. Hyderabad is still fertile ground for a movement. It was only that the Leftist ideology that put forward ‘land to the tiller’ concept,” he pointed out.
Highlighting that Left across the world has a greater role to play to defeat the capitalist forces, CPI(ML) politbureau member Kavitha Krishnan opined that it was only Left parties which do not have crisis of credibility and spirit to take the movement forward.
‘’With the capitalism expanding its foothold, the Left today has greater role to play than before. Although, it is true that Telangana has been achieved after long drawn struggle it should not become a Jharkhand and Chattisgarh,” she pointed out.
She appealed to the votaries of socialism to tackle the rise of communal fascism which is coming to fore with ascendancy of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Journalist and member of the organising committee of the seminar Mallepalli Laxmaiah informed that 27 workshops and eight plenaries were conducted on the subject and speakers were drawn from over 20 countries for the four-day seminar.
