

The Congress was way ahead of its rivals, especially the TRS, in several municipalities in Telangana, the election results of which were announced on Monday. The TDP also made its presence felt in many municipalities. However, in several municipalities, the independents emerged as king-makers with their support becoming necessary for the largest parties to get their candidates elected to the post of chairmen/mayors.
According to an ENS report from Nalgonda, the Congress won a clear majority to bag the chairmanship of three municipalities and one Nagara panchayat.
Nalgonda district has five municipalities and two Nagara panchayats.
Of the total 210 ward members, the Congress won in 104 wards , the Telugu Desam Party in 42, the TRS in 11, the BJP in 19, the left parties in 11 and the YSRCP in 3, the MIM 3 and others in 17.
There were hung results in the Kodad, Bhongiri and Suryapeta Municipalities. There is a possibtity of the TDP getting the Chairmen’s post in these municipalities with the help of the BJP.
In the Nalgonda Municipality with a total of 40 wards, the Congress party won in 22 wards, the TDP in 4, the TRS in 2, the BJP in 4, the CPM in 2, the MIM in 3 and Independents in 3.
In the Miryalaguda municipality with 36 wards, the Congress bagged 30 wards, the TRS just 2, the BJP 1, the CPM 2 and Independents 1.
In the Bhongiri Municipality with 30 wards, the Congress won in 8 wards, the TDP in 7, the BJP in 8, the CPM in 1 and Independents in 6. In Suryapeta with 34 wards, the Congress won in 9 wards, the TDP in 12, the TRS in 4, the BJP in 4, the CPM in 1, the CPI in 2 and Independents in 2.
In the Kodad municipality with 30 wards, the Congress won in 14 wards, the TDP in 13, the YSRCP in 1 and Independents in 2.
In Huzurnagar Nagara panchayath with 20 wards, the Congress bagged 10 wards, the TDP and CPI 3 each, the YSRCP 2 and Independents 2.
In Devarakonda Nagara Panchayat with 20 wards, the Congress won in 11 wards, the TDP and the TRS in 3 each , the BJP in 2 and Independent in 1 ward.
A ENS report from Khammam said that while the Telugu Desam Party got absolute majority in Sattupalli Nagara Panchayat elections, no other party got complete majority in Madhira Nagara Panchayat and Yellandu and Kothagudem municipalities in the Khammam district.
The TDP won in 17 of the 20 wards in the Sattupalli Nagara Panchayat and the YSRCP the remaining 3 wards. In the Madhira Nagara Panchayat with 20 wards, the TDP won six wards, the Congress won four, the CPM 4 and the YSRCP 3, CPI 2 and Independents 1.
In the Kothagudem municipality with 33 wards, the Congress won in 12, CPI in 8, TDP in 4, TRS, RLD and YSRCP in 1 each and the Independents in 6.
In the Yellandu municipality with 24 wars, the Congress won in 8, the CPI in 3, the TDP in 4, the TRS in 3, New Democracy Party in 2 and Independents in 4.
According to an ENS report from Adilabad, of the six municipalities in the district, the TRS and the Congress-CPI combine either emerged victorious or as the largest party in two municipalities each and the MIM and the BSP won or emerged as the largest party in one municipally each.
While the TRS emerged as the largest party in Adilabad and Khagaznagar municipalities, the Congress-CPI combine did so in Mancherial and Bellampally municipalities. The MIM annexed the Bhainsa municipality, while the BSP walked away with the Nirmal municipality. The counting of votes in the Mandamarry municipality was not taken up as a case regarding reservation is pending in the AP High Court.
Incidentally, the election officials completed the counting of votes for all the six municipalities in three hours (8 AM to 11AM) here, enabled the district to emerge as first among all the districts in the state to complete the exercise.
In the Adilabad municipality with 36 wards, the TRS won 14 wards, BJP 08, Congress 07, MIM 03 and Indepents 04. Though the TRS emerged as the largest party, it was far short of the magic figure of 19 to get its candidate elected as the Chairman and would have to seek the support of other parties like the MIM and Indpendents.
In the Mancheiral municipality with 32 wards, the Congress won in 18 wards and the TRS in 14 wards. The Congress, whose vote tally was two more than the half-way mark of 16, would get its candidate elected to the Chairman’s post.
In the Bellampelly municipality wit h 34 wards, the Congress won in 14 wards, the TRS in 10, the TDP in 05, the CPI in 02 and Independents in 03. The Congress-CPI combine, with the support of Independents, is set to get its man elected to the Chariman’s post.
In the Bhainsa municipality with 23.wards, the MIM bagged 12 wards, followed by the BJP with 06, TRS and Congress with 2 each and Independents with1. The MIM which crossed the half-way mark of 12 , would comfortably annexe the Chairman’s post.
In the Nirmal municipality with 36 wards, the BSP won in 16 wards, the MIM in 10, the Congress in 05 , the TRS in 03 and Indpendents in 2 wards. The BSP would bag the Chairman;s post with the support of the two independents.
The district leaders of the Congress and the TRS are hoping that the Assembly and LS election resuts, which are to be announced on May 16, will be on similar lines.
A Karimnagar ENS report said that in the Karminagar district, except in Husnabad, Jammikunta Major GramaPanchayats (MGPs) and Jagitial Municipality, in the remaining municipalities, municipal corporations and MGPs, Independents would be playing the role of king-makers as their support would be necessary for the largest parties to elect their candidates for the Mayor and Chairman posts,
In Husnabad Major Grama Panchyat (MGP) with 20 wards, the TRS won in 11 wards and would thus bag the MGP chairman post. Similarly, in the Jammikunta MGP with 20 wards, the TRS won 14 wards.
Results of ZPTC, MPTC Polls to be Declared Today
Nalgonda: District collector and district election officer T. Chiranjeevulu said all arrangements are made for Tuesday’s ZPTC and MPTC polls counting. Nalgonda division has 12 ZPTC and MPTC counting centres. The counting centres are in Swamy Ramanandha Thirdha Engineering College at Nalgonda. The collector on Monday visited the counting centres. In his briefing to the media persons, Chiranjeevulu said all arrangements are made in all centres of the district. There are eight to 12 tables to count above 18 lakh votes. Counting will start from 8 in the morning and will continue till 9 o’clock in the night. Separate tables have been arranged for ZPTC and MPTC votes.
BSP Gets Majority in Nirmal Municipality
Adilabad: For the first time in the history of the district, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won majority of seats in Nirmal municipality. After the Congress high command rejected the Nirmal Assembly ticket for party senior leader and former Adilabad MP A Indrakaran Reddy, he contested the Assembly polls on a BSP ticket. The BSp managed to secure 16 of the total 36 councillor seats.
