HYDERABAD: Nobody can look away from a furry friend bounding towards you. Considered man’s best friend, dogs have always had a strong champion in their human friends.

Adopting stray dogs for pets has been one of the best ways to care for these animals, yet with a pet comes many responsibilities. And sometimes, finding out the best solution to the many issues you may be facing could mean hours of scouring through the internet and sharing notes with friends who have pets too.

Well, now, all your queries and information on things like the latest pet peeve to the best food available, can all be found in one place -- Hyderabad Paws.

The city’s first animal magazine, it set to be launched on June and aims at bridging the gap between humans and animals. Coming up on a monthly basis, the magazine will promote respect for animals and sensitising people to our four legged friends.

Sashi Preetam, the editor of the magazine, says, “We realised that there was no magazine that was dedicated to the cause of animals in the city. So, we decided to come up with Hyderabad Paws. It was also felt that an animal intervention in human life is an area that has been neglected all these years. Hence, the there is an urgent need to address this issue through printed text.”

The magazine promises to feature stories of celebrity pets, recipes for healthy pet diet, information by veterinary doctors and more. Overall, the magazine would be a mix of entertainment and information. It would also contribute a special section for wildlife which would include articles by the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Informing further about the magazine, Preetam said that it would contribute towards creating an awareness about the animals in the city. For that matter, man’s best friend could be a dog, or cat or cow. About 30 per cent of the content would be dedicated to social causes and would be reserved for NGOs and other welfare organisations.

Recently a photography contest was also held to spread the word about Hyderabad Paws. Themed ‘Man’s best friend’, 12 entries from the Focus Big Photo Contest will also be included in the inaugural edition.

Preetam tells us that the contest is likely to be an annual feature to encourage photography as well as build respect for animals.

The photographs are currently on display at the Muse Art Gallery and will be up till May 23. The results of the contest will be announced on the day of the launch of the magazine. The winner will walk away with a Canon DSLR camera.
