HYDERABAD: Notoriously dubbed spooky videos, photographs and stories continue to stay viral online. Neighbours and passersby claim to have heard a woman scream from inside a building in upmarket Kundanbagh locality. And despite several years having passed since three women committed suicide inside the house, the duplex house near senior IPS and IAS officers’ quarters has been drawing attention of curious youth, especially at nights.
With rising curiosity among public, the Panjagutta police recently had to put up a banner outside the home saying it was not haunted. On Friday and Saturday nights, police even had to barricade the roads and look out for miscreants entering Kundanbagh to create nuisance around the ‘haunted’ house.
Over the last one week, the Panjagutta police have registered four cases against miscreants trying to break into the premises. Three cases of preventive arrest and one for trespass and damage were registered. More than 50 youngsters have been taken into preventive custody and as many as 17 were arrested for trespassing and damaging the property. “Based on stories doing the rounds online, youngsters are found to be trying to get inside the house. Some have hurled stones too. We received a complaint from the landlady on Thursday night too,” said S Mohan, inspector, Panjagutta.
Police had intensified checking at the entry into the locality on Friday and Saturday nights. “We want to discourage youths from causing nuisance at night, especially in this VIP area,” added the inspector. Back in 2002, decomposed bodies of 56-year-old woman Jayaprada and her two daughters were found inside the house. They were suspected to have committed suicide. Neither the neighbours knew about the suicide nor any relatives tried to find out about them. The bodies were recovered after three months.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) V Satyanarayana has said that some miscreants were trying to create panic and requested people not to believe in such rumours.
