HYDERABAD: Several attempts are being made to make people aware of the difference between real silk and mixed one. And one such attempt by Silk Mark Oraganisation of India is Silk Mark Expo 2014.
Y Srinivas Rao, senior Silk Mark executive says, “The expo will give weavers, traders and consumers an opportunity to meet each other. They will also be explained how to differentiate between real silk and mixed one.”
Meanwhile, the expo is also organising Srimathi Silk Mark - 2014 pageant, where married women till the age of 40 years will walk the ramp in the saree. Emphasis is given on married women because they are the ones who use the saree on regular basis. The auditions for the same were held in the city on Friday. Around 55 women from all walks of life -- a BSc student, a school teacher to a middle aged housewife -- everyone dressed graciously in silk sarees and walked the ramp to the tunes of ‘Kaanta laga’ and various other similar hit songs. The thrill and the enthusiasm the participants showed while informing the audience about silk had showed their love for the material. Sharing what made her participate in the competition, Anusha Reddy, a BSc student who looked stunning on the ramp said, “I love wearing silk and I think every woman should have knowledge about real silk. I have come here to learn more about it.” A teacher by profession, Pavani Dokka who has been participating similar shows before said, “Silk is the epitome of beauty. It makes women look gorgeous.” Out of the 55 contestants, 20 will be participating in the grand finale which is set to be held on September 25 at Shilpakala Vedika, Near Cyber Towers, Madhapur. The winners will help the organisation propagate the importance of pure silk among the populace. The judges for the event were Shravani Reddy, CEO of Colours saloon, B Padma, cookery expert and Sudha Rani, CEO of Kharghaa Chenetha Weavers. The expo will be held from September 23 to 29 at Shilpakala Vedika.
