HYDERABAD: ‘Sir Alec’, the Heritage Steam Locomotive gracing the facade of the South Central Railway, Rail Nilayam’s headquarters at Secunderabad has been given a makeover.

The steam locomotive has been an attraction for the public passing through this stretch connecting Sangeet crossroads and Mettuguda-Tarnaka.

An initiative of SCR General Manager Ravindra Gupta, the makeover includes the use of poly urethane (PU) painting besides adding a dash of colour lighting. The main attraction, which is bound to catch the attention of the public, is the special effects of artificial steam and smoke generation and the sound system provided to the locomotive to generate artificial simulated condition of a steam locomotive.

The Heritage Loco is planned to be showcased with the artificial stimulated condition during the evenings: from sunset till 10 pm every day.

‘Sir Alec’ was built in 1907 by Kitson & Co, Leeds and was a prized possession of the Barsi Light Railway Narrow Gauge system.
