HYDERABAD: Every anime fan, at one time or another, dreams about making an anime. Mukheem Hannan and Zubair Khan specialise in bringing characters to life, ever since they started giving the voiceover to the popular cartoon Pingu in 2013. The cartoon which follows the life of a penguin and its family has been given a Hyderabadi touch now due to the efforts of the duo who have been making people laugh for an year now.
While the videos made before show them talking only in Hyderabadi, the 11th episode which was released on Sunday has a bit of Andhra tinge to it and has already received 3,870 views and 100 likes as of now. “Though we started with Hyderabadi Hindi, we wanted to bring some variation this time. We decided to add Andhra, Hindi to it as there was a scope for it,” says Mukheem.
The highlight of the latest version of Hyderabadi Pingu goes like Main potti pataunga magar hallu hallu (Will impress girl slowly).... In the latest episode Pingu comes to entertain the audience with his stunts which he performs during his school function. What would make one laugh is that Pingu’s trophy melts when he comes home.
Though Mukheem and Zubair have busy schedules with Mukheem working as an architect at SVL Constructions and Zubair studying electrical and electronic engineering at Al Habeeb College of Engineering, the public demand keeps them going.
“We take time out on Sundays. While we took eight hours to make our first video, we completed the 11th episode in just three hours,” explains Mukheem. Ask him what made them choose the cartoon as their project, he quips,
“We started making videos with the thought of using our free time productively and we chose Pingu because it doesn’t have any voice. We could add our dialogues to the video without much hassle. The third, fifth and tenth episode has got many views,” shares Mukheem.
Elaborating more on the work that goes into reworking Pingu in desi style, he explains, “After finalising and downloading the video, we make a story out of it and record dialogues. Once the dialogue is recorded, the soundtrack is cut together with the entire storyboard to produce what’s called an “animatic”-a sort of audio slide show of the entire movie.”
The creative duo also has made videos using Oggy and the Cockroaches, Chip and Dale and Dairy Milk Shubharambh videos so far.
Speaking about their experience making this unique project, the 22-year-old says it was tough to get public attention. “We decided to make our own page ‘Hyderabadi Rocks’ where we started posting our videos. We have 12,227 likes on the page now.”
