HYDERABAD: The pylon of the Telangana government’s ambitious project, Mission Kakatiya, for restoring more than 45,000 lakes in the state is likely to be inaugurated by Union water resources minister Uma Bharathi in the third week of January in Warangal.
State irrigation minister T Harish Rao, who met Uma Bharathi on Tuesday in Delhi, requested the Union minister to inaugurate the pylon. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao finalised the pylon model on Tuesday. The 20-feet pylon was prepared by the irrigation department. As part of Mission Kakatiya, the government proposes to strenghten 46,000 lakes and 9,000 of them in the first year of its implementation.
‘’The project is likely to be launched in January third week and Uma Bharathi is invited to launch the pylon,’’ an official release said. Though the government proposed to launch the pylon and the project in Nalgonda district initially, later, it was decided to start the project from Warangal now. ‘’As Warangal has big lakes like Laknavaram, Pakala, Ramappa, Ghanapuram and Dharmasagaram, we will construct the pylon in Warangal,’’ the release said.
