HYDERABAD: The long-awaited Tolichowki flyover would be opened to traffic from next month. The flyover is planned to ease traffic congestion at the Tolichowki T-junction and facilitate hassle-free movement between Mehdipatnam and Gachibowli.
The road from Mehdipatnam to Tolichowki is considered a high traffic density area and traffic woes would be reduced after the flyover construction was completed, the drive to the Outer Ring Road, Madhapur and Hitec City would be smoother and relatively free of traffic jams.
GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar during an inspection to Tolichowki flyover on Saturday directed the engineer-in-chief R Dhan Singh and other senior officials to complete the flyover works in the first week of February.
Somesh Kumar said that though the works are in progress it needs to be expedited as the traffic congestions are very high and people were facing lot of inconvenience affecting traffic jams. He asked the town planning officials to acquire the pending 11 properties and resolve the issues at the earliest by holding discussions with the affected property owners.
The 650-metre Tolichowki flyover project hit a roadblock even before its foundation stone was laid in June 2013, as the property owners and shop keepers of the area objected to its plan of splitting it so as to bypass religious structures.
The initial plan was to construct the flyover over these religious structures, but the second plan sought to split it. The traders contended that the split would affect their business.
