HYDERABAD:Former president APJ Abdul Kalam presented the Election Commission’s prestigious ‘national special award for best electoral practices 2014’ to Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand during National Voters Day celebrations held in New Delhi on Sunday.

Anand was selected for the award for the commendable election-related measures taken by him in the area of expenditure monitoring and tackling money power during the last general election. The commission conducted a countrywide scrutiny of best practices adopted by over 450 district DEOs/SPs. The awards were instituted in 2011 to recognise the efforts and innovations of officers and to commend and encourage individual and team accomplishments in diverse fields of election management. The first general election after the institution of the award was held last year.

The top brass of the commission selected two candidates from all over India for the National General Category Award and the National Special Category Award. The National Special Category award was conferred upon Anand. It carries a cash reward of Rs 50,000 along with a plaque and a citation.

The Cyberabad police commissionerate made the largest cash seizure of Rs 21.97 crore in the country in the run-up to the election in 2014 and also the single largest cash seizure of Rs 8.33 crore in the country in its drive to control election expenditure and flow of illegal money.
