HYDERABAD: Spotting a fancy car on Hyderabad roads is a common sight. Why not? With the increase in purchasing power of people in the city and local and international brands producing fancy cars.

In addition to these, denizens will soon get to see an art car where six artists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be transforming a Volvo XC60.

Artists include Jagadish Chinthala, Laxman Aelay, Sachin Jaltare , Ramesh Gorjala, Manohar Chiluveru, Saraswati L and  the initiative is by Kaali Sudheer.

The curator of Muse Art Gallery feels that this initiative will promote art from both states and also as a value addition to cars.

“The pattern on the car will be a confluence of all the artists’ work. The car’s doors, bonnet, roof have been distributed among the six artists. It is a three-month long process and will be ready by September,” Sudheer shares.

Asked if they have decided on a theme he says, “Every artist specialises in a different form of art. They will come up with their own theme. After all the car parts are back, another artist, (who is yet to be decided) will merge the designs through his own art.”

The car will first be showcased in Hyderabad. It will later be taken across the country where it will be put on display at various art galleries. It will be auctioned at Sweden, the place where Volvo cars are manufactured, in November.

The auction, however,  is not limited only to Sweden. “If a person from India or any other country wishes to buy the car, we will try co-ordinate with them online or they can personally come and participate in the auction,” he explains

Sudheer also adds, “Art cars are mostly made abroad. This is the first time that such a piece will be made in India,” and beams.

Why he chose Volvo and not any Indian car? He responds, “I chose Volvo for a simple reason that they responded to my messages quickly and were proactive during the entire process.”

Sudheer wishes to have such events every year with a new theme which will promote the art form in India and abroad.

Laxman Aelay, renowned artist from the state is excited to be part of the project. “It is an interesting project for the artists. I will be designing the driver’s side door. The process will take at least a month. I will be making figurative art. I have started working on sketches and will start designing soon,” Laxman says. The artists will use waterproof duco paint.
