HYDERABAD:  With Commissioner of Railway Safety giving the green signal for construction of a Road over Bridge (RoB) at Ghatkesar, the pending 12-km stretch between Keesara and Ghatkesar of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) could be made operational in three months.

The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will take up construction of the viaduct portion above the railway line of the RoB. As and when the South Central Railway imposes line block at the site, HGCL will construct the viaduct covering about 45 metres for hassle-free construction.

Of the 180-185 metres RoB, the HGCL has laid approach roads for 75 metres each on either side of the road. Once the viaduct works begin, it would be completed in 45 days.

HMDA officials told Express that a few days ago, Commissioner of Railway Safety has communicated in a letter the approval for the construction of the RoB between Cherlapally and Ghatkesar. The Keesara-Ghatkesar ORR stretch was completed a few months ago but could not be opened to traffic due the pending construction of RoB at Ghatkesar. Already, the Railways has approved the General Arrangement Drawing submitted by the HGCL. As on date, the HGCL has completed about 134 km of the 158-km ORR. The Keesara to Ghatkesar is almost completed except for the RoB while Shamirpet-Keesara stretch (10.3 km) is going on at a steady space and the main carriageway would be opened to traffic by December and laying of service roads and other related works would be completed by April next.

Except for Kandlakoya Interchange near Medchal (less than 1 km stretch), the remaining ORR main carriageway would be made operational by this year-end.
