Books Maketh a Child Smarter and Brighter

HYDERABAD: Summer vacations leave kids with a lot of free time, Books n More, Library and Activity Centre, a small community library has planned a summer camp with a lot of engrossing and constructive activities for the kids. The camp began in the third week of April and will continue till end of May. The summer camp enrolls students on weekly basis as well. It features one special activity every week.

In the first week, the camp conducted cooking activities. Kids learned a lot of recipes through tireless cooking. The kids made chocolate laddoos, Cupcakes, bread rolls, panipuri and a lot more quick yet complex delicacies. The second week of the camp taught the kids to stage a puppetry show. The kids learned to make puppets, write script and stage a play with puppets.

The activity centre has a lot more activities that will be featured in the upcoming three weeks. The following are the activities that will be showcased in the corresponding dates:

Indian art: (May 4 to 9)

Since the traditional Indian art forms are seldom practiced in urban India, the activity centre in it’s attempt to preserve the Indian culture is featuring Indian art. Kids get to learn rare yet exquisite forms of Indian art forms like Warli, Madhubani, Gond, Saura, Pithora and many other elegant art forms.

Communication skills: (May 4 to May 9)

While the juniors will have a storytelling session to transport them into a fairy world, the seniors would have a comprehensive courses on public speaking, debating, group discussion, extempore speeches that would build their confidence in facing the crowd and will also enable them to adopt out of the box thinking.

Dance and Theatre: (May 11 to May 16)

While learning the art of dance and theatre is of prime focus, the activities also aim to improve kid’s positive body language, dialogue delivery, diction and group co-ordination as well. Most importantly the kids will have fun.

Science toy making: (May 18 to May 23)

The kids would get to learn the science behind the everyday toys. The workshop will help the kids explore the world around them through the lens of science.

About Books n More

Started off in 2011 as a small community library by Varsha Ramesh, with the books that she had; has todays evolved into a activity centre with 12,000 books and more. The centre ‘Books n More, Library and Activity Centre’, located in West Maredpally has all that can make your kids fall in love with it.

“The library has books across various genres including fiction, comics and non-fiction. Apart from the books the centre has more. We are also a cultural centre and imbibe cultures from all across the world and especially Indian culture among the children. We teach Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance forms and from time to time conduct various art and craft activities to explore the creative potential of the kids,” says Gurpreeth Gosh, a representative from the activity centre who spoke in the absence of the founder Varsha Ramesh.

The library has books for children between the age group of 2-17. Children are allowed to borrow two books per day and the monthly membership is as low as `100. The centre is also known for conducting various interesting and constructive workshops in Mahabharata Verse reading, Drawing, tireless cooking, art and craft, dance, theatre, story reading, communication skills, writing and so on.
