Expelled UoH Dalit Scholars Move HC

HYDERABAD: Challenging the University of Hyderabad (UoH)’s decision to expel five Dalit scholars for allegedly attacking a student and a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in August, several student groups from the university, launched a legal battle against the university administration.  Seeking justice, the suspended students, on December 18, filed a writ petition in the Hyderabad High Court. This development has come in the wake of university issuing orders, banning the Dalit scholars from hostels, barring their entry into common places in groups, administration building and disallowing their participation in students union elections as a punishment.

Opposing the same, several student groups, including Ambedkar Students Association, Bahujan Students Front, Dalit Students Union, and Students Federation of India staged a protest in front of the administration building on Monday demanded revocation of the suspension. Students alleged it was a biased attitude against Dalit students. The suspended students said their version was not heard during their inquiry.
