HYDERABAD: A new national flag will be unfurled at the Sanjeevaiah Park on Independence Day, which has been procured by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
The new flag is 72ft x 108ft in size and costs `1.20 lakh. It has been stitched by K Sanjeev Rao, a native of Khammam.
Presently, HMDA has only one flag to hoist on a daily basis. Whenever the flag gets torn, it is brought down for stitching the torn portion. After it is stitched, the flag is hoisted again.
HMDA officials told Express that in about six to eight weeks it will procure the country’s largest tricolour from Dubai-based Channel Group International.
HMDA placed the order to the company costing $4,800 (`3 lakh). The cloth is made of triple yarn which prevents damage to the flag from heavy gales. The flag will have a three month warranty.
Recently, Ranchi procured the special stitched flag from the same Dubai-based company through the Indian Embassy. The decision to procure the flag from Dubai was taken as Indian made flags are getting torn due to heavy winds.
If the Dubai flags are found durable, another four flags will be procured by the HMDA which will last for a year, HMDA officials said.
