HYDERABAD: The latest news trending the internet is the banning of Facebook’s Free Basics by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Supporting Net Neutrality, the TRAI has effectively banned the social network’s free basics proposal.
Not many know what Free Basics means and supported the project. For those who didn’t know what the whole concept was, Free Basics sought to bring free access to internet. But what many people didn’t notice realise is that there were only limited websites that would be available for free. What about others?
For instance, if video browsing website, YouTube did not agree with Facebook, the customer will have to pay seperately for using YouTube on his/her device.
This undoubtedly is going to create an extra hole in our pockets. Now that the TRAI has banned internet will remain free of cost for people until review after two years. Do you think the TRAI has taken the right step?
