HYDERABAD: To control organised crimes such as drugs, arms and women trafficking, Cyberabad police have decided to strengthen the existing two Special Operation Teams (SOT) to five under the commissionerate’s limits. With this, each DCP Zone will now have a SOT team.

As part of re-organising the structure of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate,  Commissioner CV Anand had taken a decision to set up more SOT teams to control the crime rate.

“There will now be one SOT team for every zone. Each zone--Madhapur, Balanagar, Malkajgiri, LB Nagar and Shamshabad--will have one SOT. Each team will be headed by an inspector and will have one SI, ASI, a head constable, 10 constables, one woman constable, two male home guards and two woman home guards. They will be equipped with riot gear weapons,” Anand said.

The SOT teams will work to control the activities of history-sheeters, movement of criminal gangs, land and drug mafias, high level prostitution, illegal activities of gambling clubs, resorts and pubs and other important cases.

Of the sanctioned strength of 7,200, there are only 5,200 police personnel presently available which has resulted in an adverse police-public ratio of 1:1,250. Police officials have decided to reorganise and revamp the existing strength in a manner which will meet the present and emerging policing requirements of Cyberabad Police. Meanwhile, Anand closed all Zonal Task Force teams.  As many as 75 Armed Reserve (AR) and Civil police constables were posted in these teams to help the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPs) to control organised crimes but the result were not commensurate.
