HYDERABAD: Should pregnant women use Indian or western toilet to relieve themselves? Care for Her, a panel discussion featuring top gynecologists of the city, answered more such queries on Wednesday. Panel member Dr. Padmaja, OBG Gynecologist, Fernandez Hospital, recommended the Indian toilet.“Indian toilets should be preferred because it requires a squatting movement which helps expand the pelvic muscles allowing free and safe labour during delivery”.
The doctor also mentioned the health services in India for pregnant women should be made free like that of in the UK, where she spent 13 years as a practicing doctor. “Soy is good for maintenance of the right protein levels in women, but excess may secrete high oestrogen levels which could lead to cancer in breasts and ovaries,” she added.
She was speaking at a panel discussion hosted by India Home Healthcare (IHHC), home healthcare service provider where Dr Rooma Sinha, Consultant Gynecologist and Obstetrician, Apollo Hospitals, also participated. The discussion elaborated on the dos and dont’s during pregnancy. “We should learn to include healthy physical activity from our grandmothers,” said Dr. Rooma. She recommended freshly cooked food, light exercise such as a walk to the market, relaxing tasks such as listening to music etc as part of right maternal care.
