HYDERABAD: Roads, safe drinking water supply, sanitation and traffic are the four main civic issues being highlighted by the citizens of Greater Hyderabad with the GHMC polls nearing.
While all the parties are busy chalking out strategies for the elections, people are highlighting the problems at ground level and seeking solutions from the parties.
“Roads are in a very bad shape. Even the main roads are full of potholes and dust. Tolichowki-Gachibowli, Lakdikapul-Ameerpet and Secunderabad-Begumpet roads are examples of poor condition of roads in the city. We do not know what the GHMC or government is doing. We will vote only for those who can assure us of a solution to this problem,” said B Chandramouli, a lecturer at Nanalnagar.
With prolonged delay in the metro rail work and repairs being carried out by various departments, most of the roads in city present a picture of ‘under construction’.
“Already, traffic is a big problem and bad roads are only adding to the woes. I will support those candidates or parties who can solve this problem,” asserts S Kiran, a software engineer.
Supply of safe drinking water, sanitation and two bedroom homes for the poor are other priorities of people.
When Express contacted a cross-section of people about their priorities, complaints about civic issues have poured in. While government’s promises like double bedroom homes for the poor are raising hopes among poor people, most of the people are miffed by the problems at the ground level and are ready to pour out their angst on the contestants approaching for votes.
