HYDERABAD: It’s official. Hyderabadis love their regional news and that is what they search for the most, says the Opera Mobile Users survey. The overall trend in India is that Facebook, followed by Google, Twitter, Pintrest and Quora are the most popular websites searched in the Opera Mini browser from June 2015-May 2016. While the users of the browser in urban areas love to connect to social networking sites, their rural counterparts  use it for entertainment purposes, the report added.

The browsing app’s deputy CTO Bruce Lawson revealed these facts and more when he was in the city on Thursday at a media event. The report also stated that Opera Mini  helped its users in India save Rs 690 crore by saving upto 50%of mobile data. “The browser  compresses 10% of the size of the data,enabling faster browsing” Mrunmaiy Abroal, the company’s director of communication said. More than 350 million people worldwide are currently using Opera mini, with majority of the population being the youth,aged between 16-30, the spokespersons added.

The browsing app, they said, comes with new features like 13 regional languages, Ad blocker and Data Saving mode is ideal for Indian users since 80 percent of them are prepaid users who are looking for the best browser which gives value for their money.

Its new privacy feature with encryption, Ad Blocker and Video Boost feature (which compresses the videos and cuts on the buffering hence saving data are the highlights.
