HYDERABAD: The hair transplantation performed by doctors at Osmania General Hospital on a 27-year-old youth has raised the hopes of many men who are suffering from hair loss.
In less than a week’s time after the transplantation, around 62 patients have visited Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (DVL) department of the government hospital seeking treatment.
However, the wait to undergo the hair transplantation would be long as doctors at the hospital said they could take up only one such case in one to two months because of heavy flow of patients with other DVL problems.
For the first time at a government hospital in Telangana, or in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, hair transplantation was performed at OGH on June 4 on a youth from Old City. The transplantation was performed free of cost at OGH, which otherwise costs more than `50,000 at private clinics. “People between age group of 30 to 45 have approached us. Only two of the 62 patients are in their 20’s. We will aim to take up one transplantation a month,” said Dr G Venkata Ramana, professor and head of OGH’s DVL department, adding the demand for the treatment has gone up after the first transplantation.
Dr Venkata Ramana said they attend 120 to 130 patients a day, who approach with problems related to Venereology, Leprosy and other skin problems and the busy schedule leaves them with little time to take up transplantation.
