HYDERABAD: The much-awaited Cantonment General Hospital (CGH) at Bollaram in Secunderabad will be finally open to people on Friday when the 30-bedded hospital will be inaugurated by Union minister for defence Manohar Parrikar.
All health care services will be provided free of cost at the hospital which will be maintained by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.
The Cantonment General Hospital is coming up in place of the 80-year-old Bollaram Hospital which had been a major hospital for not only the residents of Cantonment area but also for people in surrounding villages. With the construction of the new hospital delayed by more than three years, people of the Cantonment area faced a lot of difficulties. At long last, the new hospital has become ready.
“The erstwhile Bollaram Hospital used to be a major health care destination in the area. Being the only major government hospital in the area, people, especially from the poor and lower middle class, used to visit it for availing services. But to provide modern health facilities and amenities according to the growing needs, the hospital was demolished and the new Cantonment General Hospital has been built in its place. Though people faced problems in this period of gap, we hope that the new hospital will provide quality health care to the people,” said B Lokanadham, SCB ward member from Bollaram.
SCB officials plan to run the Cantonment General Hospital as a super-specialty hospital which will provide services to not just out-patients but also advanced health care like surgeries and emergency services. X-ray and ECG machines, and other equipment have been procured and specialists are being recruited.
