4-year-old in Hyderabad wraps polythene cover around head, dies of asphyxiation

HYDERABAD: Parents with infants at home are always cautious and cover sharp edges of sofa, keep coins out of reach of their infants, polythene covers are tucked deep in shelves where young children cannot lay their hands, lest they would harm themselves. A family in Hyderabad was stricken with an unfortunate incident when their four-year-old boy died of asphyxiation after wrapping a plastic cover around his head.

On Wednesday, mother of the four-year-old boy K Shriyan found him lying unconscious in their home at Nizampet, Kukatpally, Hyderabad. Efforts of the mother to save her child did not work as he was declared brought dead by doctors at a hospital.

The infant was studying Upper Kindergarten at a school in Kukatpally. The family stays at a apartments in Nizampet.On Wednesday, while playing, Shriyan wrapped a polythene cover over his head and went to bedroom. After a point of time, he, reportedly, could not remove the cover as it got wrapped around his nose and mouth.

As the mother could not spot her child, she searched and found him lying unconscious in the bedroom. She rushed him to a hospital, but it was late by the time doctors could try to attend him.

KPHB Police said that no complaint was lodged with them about the incident.
