Hyderabad Based Truth Labs Say Two JNU Event Videos Doctored

It was the Delhi government which sent the videos about 10 days ago to check for its authenticity.

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad based private forensic sciences laboratory, Truth Labs which examined as many as seven videos pertaining to February 9 protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, where alleged anti-national slogans were shouted by a group of students, have confirmed two of the videos were tampered or doctored.

The biggest question that now looms large is who tampered these footage and why. Speaking to Express, Dr KPC Gandhi, chairman, Truth Labs, said that if more inputs are provided to them, they have the expertise to find answers to these raging questions too.

"As technical experts, our job was limited to examining and stating whether they were original videos or not. We certainly have the technology to find out the origin on the videos," said Dr Gandhi, a former inspector general of Police and director, AP Forensic Sciences Laboratory. It was the Delhi government which sent the videos about 10 days ago to check for its authenticity. He said a detailed report has been submitted to the Delhi Government after finding two of the total seven videos doctored.

In one of the videos, the footage was overlaid with some voices. It appears that the audio was recorded separately and then imposed and synced with other footage in the video, he said. The audio in which the protesters are heard shouting some slogans was a clear addition to the video, which may have been shot on a different day.

The other video was found to be uneven. The video was not of a recording that was done in one go. It was in patches and carefully edited. It had several cuts in between but made to look as if it was shot in one go. He, however, refused to reveal which out of the seven videos were found to be tampered with.

JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and two other students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested on charges of sedition over the February 9 event held on campus to mark the anniversary of the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

It was here that the Delhi police, based on certain video evidence, say anti-national slogans were shouted.
