Government to Synchronise Metro with Railway Stations, Bus Depots

HYDERABAD: In a bid to provide a seamless travel experience, the state government would synchronise Metro Rail with railway stations, bus depots and feeder bus services as last mile connectivity.

HMR managing director NVS Reddy conveyed the state government’s proposal to NITI Aayog Adviser Sunita Sanghi and Director Jeetendra Singh. Both the NITI Aayog officials were in the city on Saturday to discuss the strategies adopted in and innovative features of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The project, world’s largest PPP Metro, would be helpful in providing insight into tackling challenges in the implementation of mega PPP projects.

A detailed presentation on the impact of Metro Rail on Hyderabad’s traffic and pollution level was given to the officials. The latest features incorporated in the project were also explained. This included the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling technology, implemented for the first time in the country, and innovative design of the Metro stations on single row of pillars with “spine and wings” concept. 

The officials were also informed about HMR’s plantation drive wherein 2,000 trees were translocated and 4 lakh saplings were planted. The proactive measures taken up by Hyderabad Metro Rail in the initial stages to counter misinformation campaign taken against the project by certain sections were also listed.

The project is not only a high end transport facility but is being developed as an urban redesign wherein better walk ways are provided at station locations.

From a “written off” stage in the beginning, the project has come a long way and is receiving several prestigious international awards even before completion, NVS Reddy told the officials.
