HYDERABAD: Here’s the poor man’s Apple Watch. Called V-watch, it is a watch equivalent to a PoS (Point of Sales)machine, but in a space and cost-efficient method. Made by students of Abhaya School in the city, it won the second prize at the National Innovation Challenge for Young Minds - Teenovators 2016 held at the Manipal University in Bengaluru.
This project is the baby of five students - Geethika Arcot, Sudhamsh Undavalli, Milind Agith, Shane Stanley (in their Class X) and Mustafa Najmi in (Class IX) along with their mentor Ameer Khan.
The students came up with the idea to help the vegetable vendors with a cost and time-effective PoS system. It took them a week to come with the prototype of the V-Watch PoS.
This mini PoS system can be used by vendors who have a hard time dealing with numerous customers. It can either use bar codes to register sales inputs and calculate the total cost while the vendors also go about other transcations. It can also have image reading options so that the cost for creating bar codes are deduced and will be convenient for illiterate vendors and customers alike.
The watch has a unique feature of saving floor space and cost effectiveness. This watch will also provide a time effective shopping experience for the customers as online payments are possible.
The team is also taking it forward to producing the V-watch along with a unique feature of pick-go-pay system which will provide online payments after the commodities are picked up.
“The team is moving forward to manufacturing their innovation on a more large scale basis with the cost approximately around Rs 10,000 which is more cost effective than the other PoS machines”, a student from the team said.
The V-watch will offer a life span of two years to its users. They hope to expand the manufacture of the watch and provide cost, space and time effective shopping affair to the businessmen and customers alike.
