HYDERABAD: A fresh circular was issued by the University of Hyderabad (UoH), on Thursday, prohibiting entry of “outside vendors coming with cooked and processed food” into the sprawling campus, meaning that food delivery boys will not be allowed entry into the university. It may be recalled that English and Foreign Languages University passed similar orders last year.

While the circular has not been received well by students, the UoH administration has cited two reasons for prohibiting entry of food delivery boys on campus, to ensure security on campus and to safeguard the interests of private food courts, bakeries and canteens licensed to run their business on the university campus. UoH spokesperson Prof Vinod Pavarala’s phone, when tried, was switched off.

One student, Anandh Jose, said, “With this ban on food delivery boys on campus, students will either have to go to restaurant to eat or order food online and walk till the main gate to collect the order which can take as much as 20-45 minutes depending on which hostel you stay. Students choose to order food online sometimes because the quality of food served on campus is bad.”
