HYDERABAD: First the Metro Rail and now two steel flyovers, commuters in Hyderabad can finally expect some respite from the chock-a-block traffic on the city roads. The city will soon have two of its first steel flyovers of 2.6 km between the Indira Park and VST main road stretch. The flyovers will provide the much-needed relief from the traffic snarls at Indira Park, Ashok Nagar, RTC X Roads, VST Junction, Azamabad and Baghlingampally junction. Another second level three-lane bidirectional steel-bridge-flyover from Ramnagar Road to Baghlingampally Road via VST junction would come up in the Phase II progarmme.

The project, costing around `350 crore, will be a four-lane elevated corridor from Indira Park to VST Junction, and will pass through NTR Stadium, Ashok Nagar crossroad junction, RTC X Road and Bagh Lingampally. The road leading from Katta Maisamma Temple, Lower Tank Bund to Hindi Mahavidyalaya is a crucial connecting road in the city.

The road has been plagued with problems associated with inadequate carriageway width, lack of footpaths and traffic management, lack of efficient mass transport system, and resulted increased pressure on the existing road network, and therefore the steel bridge flyover was proposed to cope for the future traffic demand.

The civic body has entrusted M/s Stup Consultant to study the feasibility and preparation of DPRs. They have prepared three options and submitted the proposals to GHMC. The proposal for steel-bridges were found to be best feasible one.The structure will be built with steel pier, steel pier cap, steel girder with cast-in-situ with a design of 40 km per hour.

More importantly, no private properties need to be aquired except the GHMC land of 5,762 sqm and industrial land of 3,244 sqm, totalling 9,006 sqm. Meanwhile for the second level three lane bi-directional independent flyover from Ramnagar road to Baghlingampally road via VST main road junction of 0.862 km costing `76 crore has also been proposed in Phase-2 progarmme.
