Hyderabad Metro Rail launched, opens to the public at 6 am on November 29: Check the fares and timings here

PM Modi inaugurated the Hyderabad Metro Rail Tuesday afternoon. The metro will be open to the public from 6 am on November 29. Here is a list of things you need to know about the newest metro rail in the country. 

  • The metro will run a distance of 30km from Nagole to Miyapur, the longest stretch in the country. 

  • The minimum fare for travelling in a Metro Rail is Rs 10. While a passenger can commute 2km distance for Rs 10, the maximum fare (for more than 26 km) is fixed at Rs 60. [FULL FARES LIST]

  • The Hyderabad Metro rail will run at the speed of 80km/hr and an average speed of 34km/hr. 

  • The time taken to cover the distance between Miyapur to LB Nagar via Metro will be 45minutes, while the time taken to cover the distance between the two destinations by road is 1 hour 44minutes. 

  • The metro will take only 22 minutes to cover the distance between Jubilee Bus Station and Falaknuma. The distance between Nagole and Shilparamam will be covered within 39 minutes. 

  • One needs to buy a smart card or a token to travel in the metro. The cost of the smart card is Rs 200. At present, the smart cards are available only in four stations, Nagole, Tarnaka, Prakashnagar and SR Nagar.

  • The metro will be open to the public from 29 November.  The metro will ply from 6 am to 10 pm every day. 

  • The Hyderabad Metro Stations are completely open. The stations are cantilevered. 

  • The metro is expected to ferry 17 lakhs people per day. 

  • All the three Hyderabad Metro Rail corridors will be operational by December 2018. The deadline to complete the remaining two corridors is June 2018. 

  • The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) was formed in 2007. The State government reached a deal with Maytas Infra, while Navbharat Ventures, IL&FS and Ital Thai became consortia partners on September 19, 2008. 

  • The agreement was cancelled on July 7, 2009, after Maytas’ parent company —Satyam Computers—got embroiled in a major financial scam. 

  • The project was revived after L&T entered the scene as partnering firm. Works were inaugurated on November 25, 2012.

  • On October 15, 2017, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd, missed the deadline set for itself with the work on two of the corridors remains incomplete.

  • With Hyderabad Metro Rail and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited announcing the commencement of its commercial operations between Nagole-Ameerpet and Miyapur sections from November 29, after the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, L&TMRHL announced the fare chart on Saturday.
