HYDERABAD: Following the heavy rain which lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, water logging took place in several parts of the city. Besides this, caved-in roads and potholes left Hyderabadis frustrated.
Residents of Nallagandla on Sunday afternoon rued that with continuous rains in the city, the little repair works taken up by GHMC, after the rain subsides, was also stalled. “Since it has been raining almost everyday, the little patch work of filling potholes was also not done. The rides are not just bumpy, but also dangerous. Lack of an underground sewerage system leads to further clogging,” said Hirdesh Gupta, one of the resident.

Every one in the colony has a separate sewerage system and for some, the outlet is the surrounding lakes. “Most times, the waste remains in certain spots in the colony,” he added. One near Pranaam Hospital, one outside Ratnadeep super market and another near Hima Sai lake, he further informed.
“These spots are also accident prone,” he added. Every time it rains, the residents call officials who come and fill the potholes. Beyond this, no action has been taken, he said.

On the other hand, houses in colonies surrounding Errakunta in Nacharam were filled with water for the third time this month. The Errakunta lake overflows everytime it rains and on Sunday afternoon too, the situation was the same. Residents of the area, mostly daily wage labour and house maids often leave the area when it rains so heavily, informed Saroja, one of the residents.

“At least six houses have been filled with water and the bridge that connects two slums has a strong flow of water from lake,” she said. Vehicles coming in had to take a one km detour in order to reach their destinations.

Thunderstorm warning for Monday

Hyderabad: Hyderabad continued to experience rainfall on Sunday. India Meteorological Department said that on Sunday southwest monsoon was active over Telangana. IMD warned that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur at isolated places across Telangana on Monday.

From Sunday morning till night, highest rainfall was recorded at Bandlaguda near Uppal at 6.5cm. Across TS, Varni in Nizamabad received the maximum rainfall of 9.9 cm on Sunday.

Most city roads waterlogged

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s roads have gone from bad to worse over last few days as the city continues to experience rains almost on a daily basis. All major roads are marked either by potholes or have been damaged with the road’s top layer getting eroded by rain, raising doubt over quality of roads. In many areas the shoddy patch work done by GHMC to cover up potholes has also been weaning off. Although rainfall was reported to be just between 1-3 cms on Sunday, water logging was witnessed on most roads in various areas. In Chandrayangutta, a wall collapsed on Sunday due to the rains. GHMC commissioner, B Janardhan Reddy visited Nehru Zoological Park.
