HYDERABAD: With just a few days left for his marriage and no resources to fund the celebrations, a cab driver from the Old City burgled a house in Balapur when the inmates went to attend a marriage. The cab driver stole some cash and gold ornaments weighing 14 tolas from the house in what he described to the police a ‘spur of the moment’ decision.

The accused, 23-year-old Amer Bin Ali Khulagi of Salala area in Barkas lost his parents during childhood and was brought up by some relatives. During January this year, a marriage proposal had come for Amer and was scheduled for March. Though Amer had been working as a cab driver for the last few years, his earnings were not sufficient to celebrate marriage, Balapur inspector S Mohan Reddy said. Amer had been trying to pool money for expenses but his friends & relatives did not help much. Meanwhile, on January 26, Amer went to meet one of his friends.

“The friend’s neighbour was leaving for a marriage function and was locking the house. After seeing them, Amer got an idea to loot the house and use the property for his marriage celebrations. Accordingly, after the owners left, the accused barged into the house and stole gold cash and some articles,” said Mohan Reddy. The friends of Amer who were involved in theft include Ismail Ghori, Viquar Pasha & Mohammed Nusrath alias Shahbaz. The accused were moving suspiciously in Balapur area when they were caught during vehicle checking.
