HYDERABAD: Mystery shrouds the death of a mother, daughter duo, who were found hanging from the ceiling of their residence in Dundigal in the city outskirts on Tuesday morning. The deceased, Allanthagari Anitha and her six-year-old daughter Navya, reportedly died soon after husband Srinu left for work.

Police have recovered a suicide note, purportedly written by Anitha, which stated that one of her friends Priyanka cheated her by not returning the money she had borrowed with her reference. Inquiries revealed Priyanka was a resident of Suraram and her husband works with a pharma company.

A case of abetment to suicide has been filed. Anitha has been married for eight years to Srinu, who owns and drives a DCM van for a living. Recently, Anitha’s grandmother Mallamma moved in with them. Srinu left on Tuesday morning for work at around 5 am, when everyone else were asleep.  At around 7 am, when Mallamma woke up and went to check on Anitha, she found them hanging from the ceiling. According to the police, Anitha had helped Priyanka borrow `8 lakh about two years ago. Priyanka was paying interest regularly, but she was not ready to pay the principle.

It was Navya’s birthday

When police visited Anitha’s house on Monday, they found a half-eaten cake in the refrigerator. Navya had turned six just on Monday, one day before she died. The couple celebrated their daughter’s birthday on Monday evening with their family, friends and a few neighbours. “From the way she behaved Monday night, we can surely say it’s not a suicide. There’s someone behind the incident,” say friends of the family. “Anitha was a very strong woman and she never showed any signs of depression,” they added.
