Management lessons from Saina’s game

City-based author Jatin Gupta’s new book  ‘Winning like SAINA, Think and Succeed like NEHWAL,’ speaks of the shuttler’s life values, techniques and her success mantra

HYDERABAD: Author Jatin Gupta believes there are two kinds of people in the world. One, who is stepping into the professional world for the very first time and others who have been in the system for some time and struggling with their careers to get forward.  The common problem that haunts both the sets of the people is deciding “what to do and what not to do”.

The first set should remember that growing happens one step at a time if they keep learning relentlessly. The latter should understand that the reason for their failure and evaluate their performance over last five years and based on that try to learn from their mistakes and correct themselves. These values are beautifully imbibed and what Jatin wants his readers to take away from his newly compiled book ‘Winning like SAINA, Think and Succeed like NEHWAL’.

As the title suggests, this book speaks about the story of Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, about life values, techniques and success mantra which apart from sportspersons can also be followed by any individual regardless of his/her profession.

This book consists of six chapters and has simple and lucid language along with real-life examples from around the world and mythology draws special attention in this book. The introduction revolves round Saina’s early life, her aims and goals and the valuable comments given by the noted personalities. The first chapter highlights the importance of keeping mentors and their role in one’s life-giving example of Chandragupta Maurya and his mentor Chanakya.

The concept of ‘multiple mentorships’ has been discussed referring to Saina’s life as she has undergone her career under four mentors namely P.S.S. Nani Prasad, S.M. Arif, Pullela Gopichand and Vimal Kumar, besides her parents being the first one. The second chapter is about how to be the best, determined and enhancing one’s willpower.

The Skill Vs Will matrix by Max Landsberg and the Brooklyn Bridge story suits as an example in this chapter. ‘Never Give Up’ is the moral of the third chapter. This chapter carries the list of titles won by Saina in national and international levels.

The next three chapters describe how being analytical in every sphere of life, being determined, dedicated and hard work can lead to a successful life and relates each of this values to real-life achievements of Saina. Another interesting part of this book is the presence of ‘Learning Tip’ in almost every second page of the book on an average which helps the reader to remember every value easily.
