HYDERABAD: Prof. Ashish Ghosh, Professor in the Machine Intelligence Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta delivered a guest lecture on ‘Next-Gen Internet and Data Science’ at GITAM, Hyderabad yesterday.

He said, “A smart sensor takes input from the physical environment and uses built-in compute resources to perform predefined functions upon detection of specific input and then process data before passing it on. The possible sensors can make our life easier. A smartwatch can change a life of a person. It can able to sense the pulse of a person while waking up from the bed and automatically switch on the lights, toaster, coffee machine, water heater etc.”

He also added that the Internet of Thing (IoT) can uniquely help address problems of clean water, air pollution, landfill waste and deforestation. Sensor-enabled devices can help monitor the environmental impact of cities, collect details on sewers, air quality and garbage.

‘In smart ambulance different sensors like heart rate sensor, blood pressure, ECG will be judging the status of vital parameters, the status of these parameters will be sent to the hospital’s database. After getting status of vital parameters, hospital authorities will plan accordingly’ he added.
