Is the Pakistan national held in Hyderabad an ISI spy?

HYDERABAD: Was the Pakistani national Mohammed Usman Ikram alias Abbas Ikram, who was recently arrested for illegal stay in Hyderabad, an ISI spy? Though there is no such information, at least till now, investigators who do not want to leave any stone unturned are planning to question him soon to ascertain if he was working for the Pakistani intelligence agency during his 7-year long stay in Hyderabad.

He will also be grilled to know if he had any links with proscribed organisations in the country. The sleuths have already filed a petition in the court seeking police custody for further investigation. Usman Ikram was arrested by the city cyber crime police following a complaint from his wife that he has been harassing her for money and threatening to upload naked videos of her and her daughter on the internet.

Sources associated with the investigation told Express that ever since his illegal entry into the country through Nepal in 2011, he has been doing odd jobs at various places. Even the purpose of his illegal entry is not known. “He spent seven long years in Hyderabad and we need answers as to what he was doing here, who were his contacts here and importantly whether he was associated, directly or indirectly with any proscribed organisations,’’ they said. Usman was already married before he entered India. His wife and two children are said to be living in Piplan in Punjab state of Pakistan. Investigator say he lied to his second wife based in Hyderabad, that he came to India on a visit even though he had entered the country illegally through Nepal.

Ever since he arrived in Hyderabad in 2011,  Usman had stayed in different localities—for sometime in Chaderghat and then moved to Tolichowki. He obtained a passport claiming to be a resident of Golnaka in Amberpet.

“Wherever he stayed, he did so using a fake identity.” Besides, sleuths will pull out his financial details and grill him to know more about his online activities. “We also have to probe with whom was he in touch in Pakistan all these years, their names and addresses and whether he was using different SIM cards. A lot of investigation is to be done and once we get his custody, we expect more information to come out,’’ a police officer said. Police arrested the lecturer Maqsood Ahmed (46) from Karimnagar along with his associates Syed Badaruzzama Kirmani (52) and Mohammed Khaja Nizam (35).
