HYDERABAD: An amalgamation of cultures, the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival not only brought the two “Tollywoods” together but also gave artists from Tagore’s land a chance to meet and experience their counterparts here in Hyderabad. Speaking to Hyderabad Express about the same, renowned actor, Rituparna Sengupta shared her excitement about being a part of the film festival; both in person and through her films.

“Film Festivals are like a vacation to me,” says the award-winning actress. She adds, “I usually have a packed schedule because of work and when I get to attend film festivals, it helps me connect with artistes, watch good movies and understand other cultures. It is a very enriching experience.” Although it isn’t the first time Rituparna has visited Hyderabad, she admits that she always has something new to encounter every time.

This time wasn’t any different. “I met a couple who were doctors, who were here to watch a psychological thriller,” she exclaims adding, “Question and answer sessions to keep me on my toes. It is great to interact with film enthusiasts and understand their perspective of the movies. You always come across a new viewpoint and an interpretation of movies that you would have watched multiple times,” she says.

Visiting Hyderabad all the way from Kolkata, Ritu doesn’t see the region as a barrier to appreciate art.  “Cinema is universal, language is just a medium,” she smiles adding, “For instance, I am a part of a movie called Colours of Life which is made by a Bengali production but is essentially in English. It will still tell the story it has to. Only when we push our boundaries can we be better artists.” “I would be thrilled to work in South Indian movies too if there was something great up for the offer,” she says signing off.
