GHMC to strictly implement plastic ban

The corporation is going to strictly implement the ban on the plastic thickness below 50 microns and also on flexes and banners.

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has appealed to all political parties and public representatives to join hands with it in keeping the city free of plastic bags as per the directions of the state government.

According to city mayor Bonthu Rammohan, the corporation is going to strictly implement the ban on the plastic of thickness below 50 microns and also on flexes and banners. Officials are conducting inspections and penalising violators with heavy penalties. In the past two days around Rs 1.5 lakh has been collected in penalties from traders and about 500 kg of plastic waste has been seized.

The government aims to eradicate single-use plastic completely by 2022. GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has appealed to traders and citizens to not to use single-use plastic to make the city pollution-free.
