HYDERABAD: A day after three persons were arrested for peeping over shoulders of ATM users, collecting card details and stealing their money, Cyberabad police are planning to issue notices to the owner and developer of a mobile application called Bank Card Validator. As the accused have claimed that they verified card details via the application, police want to inquire the developers how they got the data of card holders.

“We will serve notices to the manager and developer of the application to find out how they gathered the data of so many card holders, as it is a matter of customer privacy. It is also to be verified if they procured the data from banks in an authorised manner or through some other channel,” said the investigators.

According to police, the trio got the card details of 300 customers; all the details were noted down in a diary. However, they used details of only 200 customers to loot money so far. “They would look over shoulders and memorise the card details. Once they get back home, they would note it down in the diary,” say the police.

“Though they were school dropouts, they were tech savvy and had very good memory,” added cops. Prime accused Manish Kumar, his uncle Manjesh Kumar and friend Vinod Kumar have confessed this is how they stole money. “They would check the validity of the card using the mobile application. Once confirmed, they would call the bank customer care and check the account balance,” say police.
