HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to revise the user charges for door-to-door garbage collection within its limits. Under the new proposal, each household living in planned or unplanned colonies will be required to pay a minimum of Rs 100 per month, while those living in slums will be required to pay a minimum of Rs 50 per month for the collection and transportation of garbage by Swachh Auto Tippers (SAT), tricycles, or waste collectors.
The proposal is set to be discussed and approved during the GHMC Standing Committee meeting, chaired by Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi on Wednesday. The revised charges will be subject to an annual escalation based on the wholesale price index.
Field-level officers have been instructed to inform waste generators about the compliance requirements of the revised guidelines, which will include updated information on user charges to be paid to SATs, tricycles, and waste collectors. The existing guidelines, issued in 2016, will be replaced by the revised guidelines.
