HYDERABAD: The Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) has demanded a time-bound investigation and speedy prosecution in the killing of private school principal Rupa Reddy, besides urging the state government to enact a comprehensive Teachers and Schools Protection Act.

The association said the incident had created insecurity among teachers, principals and school managements across Telangana. It urged the government to ensure that the case is tried in an appropriate Fast Track Court.

TRSMA also said teachers, particularly women teachers, were increasingly facing threats, humiliation, abuse and intimidation from some parents, students and community representatives. It flagged instances of unauthorised entry into school premises and disruption of academic activities.

TRSMA president S Madhusudhan said the proposed legislation should provide safeguards against assaults, threats, unlawful entry, vandalism and damage to school property. He also sought a state-wide school safety and teacher protection mechanism involving the Education and Police departments and the district administration.

Madhusudhan stressed that parents and schools must jointly shoulder responsibility for children’s behaviour and discipline. The association also called for counselling, emotional well-being, life-skills and behavioural support programmes for students.

TRSMA said it would take up the issue with the chief minister, senior education officials, DGP, collectors and district educational officers, and urged the government to make teacher and school safety a priority.
