KOCHI: It’s finger lickin’ good and it’s here in the city. The Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has opened its first outlet in the state at the Gold Souk in Vyttila.
Rumours were afloat that the first KFC outlet will be opened at Oberon Mall, and Kochiites were kept waiting a bit longer for Colonel Harland Sanders’ world famous fried chicken. And finally it opened without much fanfare on December 1, but that didn’t deter KFC lovers from rushing in to grab a bucket of chicken as soon as it opened its doors for business.
Many came to know about the opening of KFC through word of mouth or while passing through the area. “I was a regular at the KFC outlet in Chennai during my college days. While passing by I saw the open sign at the outlet and I rushed in to grab a bite,” said a customer.
KFC entered India in 1995 and has been in the midst of controversies since then. But undeterred by protests by PETA, which accused KFC of cruelty towards chicken, and other regulatory bodies that opposed the high level of monosodium glutamate (a flavour enhancing ingredient) in its chicken, KFC planned a massive expansion programme and now has 12 outlets in the country, including the one in Kochi. Colonel Sanders’ secret flavour recipe of 11 herbs and spices that creates the famous ‘finger lickin’ good’ chicken remains a trade secret even today. But it has introduced many offerings for its growing customer base in India which includes the veggie burger, veggie snacker and veg rice meals for vegetarians. The other signature dishes include hot and crispy chicken, the original recipe chicken, spicy zinger burger, chicken bucket and a host of beverages and desserts.
So grab a bucket and enjoy the finger likin’ good chicken that will have you craving for more.
